Yes, you can live your best life!

Your Past

Posted on: June 6, 2015

These two simple words define so many when in fact they shouldn’t. Too often people allow their past to define who they are or even worse, what their future will be. Your past is simply that…your past. There is nothing you can do to change, so why not embace and accept it. Learn from your past and allow it thrust you into your future.

No one can change what family they were born into. No one had an the option as to which parents they were going to get, which neighborhood they would grew up in nor what financial stituation their family was in. But, none of that should define who you are now as a person.

I grew up in a single parent home, but instead of being bitter that all my friends had both parents in the home, I embraced it. Instead of having to go between two parents and ask permission to do something, I just had to ask one. Bonus for me in my opinion. Some people who grew up in homes with two parents experienced their parents fighting all the time. That wasn’t my story. I’ve always tried to look at the positive in things. Till this day me and my mom are the best of friends because all we had was each other.

And maybe your upbringing wasn’t storybook. What are you doing now to make your present and future better? With each new morning there is always an opportunity to not give up. Rather, keep trying. So what if “doors of opportunity” in the past were shut in your face. Maybe that wasn’t the door God wanted you to go through. You must keep going forward. And pray God leads, guides and order your steps.

And remember, there will always be those who will constantly remind you of your past. We call those people “haters.” If those in your primary circle aren’t encouraging you, then you need to let them go. Your past is not who you are today. Never allow anyone to keep you prisioner to who you were or what you’ve done in your past.

Keep moving forward and believe in yourself even when no one else does. Remember God loves you and he created you on purpose for a purpose. Smile, be encouraged and begin today living the best life you can live!
